Supporting the Education of Lembata Children, Plan Indonesia Holds Thank You Project

05 December 2024

Lembata, 4 December 2024 – Education is an important part of fulfilling children’s rights and well-being. Yayasan Plan International Indonesia (Plan Indonesia) continues to be committed to supporting children in Lembata, by ensuring 98.6% of sponsored children have access to formal education. Until this year, more than 8,000 sponsored children in Lembata have benefited from educational programs initiated by Plan Indonesia. This achievement is inseparable from the active role of parents and the enthusiasm of sponsored children in pursuing education.

In 2024, Plan Indonesia again launched the Thank You Project program, an initiative that provides Cash Voucher Assistance (CVA) worth Rp150,000 to support the educational needs of sponsored children. This program is implemented in five sub-districts and covers 79 villages in Lembata Regency.

“Thank You Project is a form of our appreciation to our sponsored children and their families. Through this program, we want to ensure that the children’s educational needs can be met, as well as encourage local economic involvement by involving local entrepreneurs in the bazaar mechanism,” explained Erlina Dangu, Lembata Program Implementation Area Manager.

With the theme of Children’s Rights in Education and Welfare, the program allows children and their families to directly select the educational supplies they need, through local bazaars.

“Today we received vouchers for school supplies, such as shoes, books, and stationery. With this voucher, we can buy new shoes to go to school. This assistance eases the burden on our parents,” said Anastasia, 15, one of the sponsored children in Lembata.

Plan Indonesia hopes that the Thank You Project can continue to have a positive impact on children and communities in Lembata Regency. This program is also a reminder of the importance of collaboration between various parties in efforts to fulfill children’s rights and improve their welfare.
