Plan International Statement on Child Protection in Conflict Situations

Plan International is deeply saddened by the conflict that took place on October 7, 2023 and left more than 1,000 civilians dead and thousands injured. At least 90 of those killed in the conflict were children.
Therefore, Plan International condemns the violence committed by both parties and calls for an immediate ceasefire to prevent more casualties. We also call on all parties to the conflict to ensure safe and uninterrupted conditions for humanitarian aid.
Plan International also calls on the parties involved in the conflict to comply with International Humanitarian Law and make every effort to protect the lives and rights of civilians, especially children. Because, civilians, especially children must be protected under any circumstances. In addition, Plan International also asks the parties to the conflict not to damage or target infrastructure and public facilities related to public activities and humanitarian activities.
As an organization fighting for a just world and the fulfillment of children’s rights and equality for girls, we urge the international community to remember that in conflict situations, it is children who always bear the deepest suffering and become innocent victims.
Fundamentally, all children have the right to a life free from violence and fear. It is our responsibility to protect that right.
