Run for Equality 2025 is an Inclusive Charity Run for Disability and Caregivers to Build Strong Families through Sports

Jakarta, 1 July 2025 – Yayasan Plan International Indonesia (Plan Indonesia) and the National Commission on Disability (KND) officially collaborated to hold the Run for Equality 2025 charity run, through the signing of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) on Tuesday (1/7).

Run for Equality 2025 not only invites people to move together physically, but also for social value. The event will take place in four cities: Jakarta (13 July START/FINISH at Epiwalk Lifestyle), Bandung (27 July at Jalan Malabar), Kupang (14 September), and Makassar (9 November). Thousands of participants are expected to support the movement and run in the Run for Equality 2025 series of activities, including children, families, and individuals from disability groups. Not only running 2 and 5 kilometres, participants will also voice a strong message about the importance of encouraging a change in society’s perspective on equality for children, girls and people with disabilities across Indonesia.

Executive Director of Plan Indonesia, Dini Widiastuti, explained that currently there are still many challenges faced by people with disabilities in Indonesia, both related to accessibility, participation, and social acceptance. The 2023 National Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) shows that around 22.97 million people or 8.5 per cent of Indonesia’s population live with various disabilities. Unfortunately, the 2024 Susenas data shows that 17.2 per cent of people with disabilities aged 15 years and over have never attended school.

“Run for Equality is not just about reaching the finish line. It’s about taking steps together for a more equal world. This starts from building strong families by instilling the values of empathy, equality and mutual support. Through this activity, people are invited to better understand the importance of inclusivity in every aspect of life, especially in the family and community space,” Dini explained.

Acting Chairperson of KND, Jonna Aman Damanik added that Run for Equality is a symbol of efforts to build a more inclusive community.

“This event is an important momentum to build awareness that equality is not a choice, but a necessity. Hopefully, this will be a new chapter in efforts to realise wider inclusion for people with disabilities,” he said.

Through this partnership, Plan Indonesia and KND are committed to ensuring that Run for Equality 2025 is disability-friendly and open to all.

In addition, with the theme ‘Building Strong Families Through Sports and Games’, Run for Equality 2025 also emphasises the importance of the role of family as the first inclusive, healthy and friendly environment for the growth and development of children, including children with disabilities. To support the participation of all family members, each Run for Equality 2025 event will be equipped with child-friendly and inclusive daycare facilities.

As a form of joint commitment, Run for Equality 2025 is also supported by various strategic partners, such as UNIQLO, Turkish Airlines, Sanga-Sanga, and other partners who also prioritise the principle of equality in their social activities.

Not only that, a series of well-known public figures including actor Joe Taslim, model Kelly Tandiono, actress and mother of a child with a disability Joanna Alexandra, and disabled runner Natrio Catra Yososha will join to voice the importance of inclusion and ready to run together at Run for Equaliy 2025 in Jakarta.

Plan Indonesia also invites the public to take part through real action in community-based fundraising (crowdfunding) through the Kitabisa.com/kitasetara2025 platform. Donations collected will be used to create safe spaces, inclusive activities, as well as the participation of more families with children with disabilities, including their caregivers, in other empowerment programmes.During the Run for Equality 2025 event, a portion of ticket sales will also be donated to procure prosthetic limbs for Puspadi Bali.

The public can also join the Family Fest series that takes place on 11-12 July 2025 at Epiwalk Lifestyle Jakarta, coinciding with the race pack collection. This activity is not just about collecting running attributes, but also presents various inspirational and educational talk shows on the issue of parenting families with children with disabilities, the resilience of children with disabilities in facing disasters, disability-friendly workplaces, and interactive workshops such as basic sign language and sensory play with expert speakers in their fields.
