Love for Fauzan
04 January 2024
In May, 2023, Fauzan (12) suddenly developed a high fever and fell limp on his bed. His parents, panicking, immediately took him to the local health care center. But his condition deteriorated so much that he was referred to the Lewoleba Regional General Hospital (RSUD), Lembata, East Nusa Tenggara. Hearing the news that one of their assisted children was seriously ill, Plan Indonesia’s Field Development Officer in charge of the village where Fauzan lived immediately made a visit to confirm his condition.
Due to the limited health facilities at Lewoleba Regional Hospital, Fauzan was advised to be immediately referred to Kupang. Unfortunately, despite receiving treatment there, his condition had not improved. After being diagnosed with Bone TB, the doctor recommended that Fauzan be immediately referred to Bali for more optimal medical treatment.
“We were frantic about Fauzan’s condition and couldn’t do much, so Mr. Ignas and officers from Plan Indonesia took care of everything related to Fauzan’s referral to Bali.” Recalled Rusdi (35), Fauzan’s father.
After arriving in Bali, Fauzan immediately received maximum medical treatment with assistance from his father, Rusdi and his mother. The treatment period in Bali lasted for two months. Day by day, Fauzan’s health condition got better until finally Fauzan and his family returned to Lembata.
While undergoing the recovery process, Fauzan asked to go back to school and participate in teaching and learning activities as usual. He still tries to attend school every day even though his condition has not fully recovered.
“I miss my friends, my teachers and math lessons.” Fauzan said.

Due to Fauzan’s strong will, Plan Indonesia field officers regularly coordinated with the school regarding Fauzan’s health condition. This resulted in the school providing a special policy for Fauzan’s class hours, ensuring he could go home early if he felt tired.
More than six months later, Fauzan has now fully recovered. With a renewed spirit, Fauzan is ready to return to school, along with his friends. His journey is an inspiring story of fortitude and community support that can turn a child’s illness into triumph.
“Thank you to the brothers and sisters of Plan Indonesia who have been with me since I was sick until now. I am strong and ready to go to school with my friends.” Fauzan said.
