In April, 23 young men and women at the age of 18 to29 years old participated in the Green Skill training by Yayasan Plan International Indonesia (Plan Indonesia), as a part of the Youth-Led Agri-Food (YLAF) program. YLAF is an entrepreneurship program focusing on farming and livestock sector, supported by Citi Foundation to help create food resilience and provide sufficient nutrients to decrease stunting rate in the region.
During the two day training, the participants learned various skills to increase their entrepreneurial proficiencies. Materials being taught include basic skills in farming, fishery or catfish cultivation, as well as raising livestock and cultivation of laying hens. Aside from that, the participants gained knowledge about basic business and financial planning, as well as Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) that encouraged them to support young women in their village to break free from gender stereotypes, participate in productive businesses, and boost their economy.
Indry (18 years old), a young farmer and participant of the YLAF program said that the training was useful for millennial farmers. “This training helps to expand our knowledge in cultivating agricultural land into productive business to increase our income and help build the village,” she said.
