Euka Learns to Shop for Daily Needs
02 May 2025
Euka (11 years old) is the third of four children and the only boy in her family. Euka, who is currently in grade 6, is known as a smart and accomplished child.
Behind his physical limitations, Euka has a big dream of becoming a veterinarian. He always studies diligently to be able to realise his dream. He also does not forget to help her parents who work as farmers and breeders. Like other children, Euka still enjoys playing football with her friends. Despite limited access and facilities, her spirit has never been dampened.
Since the age of three, Euka has relied on a walking stick to help with her daily activities. Previously, he could only crawl. Over time, from having to use two sticks, Euka was slowly able to use just one. Even so, it was not uncommon for her to experience obstacles such as when the stick he used was too big and had to be cut to fit her body size.
‘We have been very helpful in Euka’s growth and development process until now. There has also been a lot of help in the form of play equipment such as balls,’ said Euka’s mother, Adriana (40).
Euka Learns to be Independent
In March 2025, Euka participated in a bazaar in her village. But this was no ordinary bazaar. He and thousands of other children through the Cash Voucher Assistant (CVA) activity shopped at the bazaar using vouchers worth IDR 145,000.
Euka was so excited. Because this was his first time being able to choose the items he needed himself. Starting from bath soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, laundry soap, and other cleaning tools.
‘This CVA activity is very good because it provides an opportunity for children to choose their needs at home,’ said Adriana.
This activity is part of Plan Indonesia’s efforts to encourage the independence of children, especially those living in vulnerable conditions, so that they can make small decisions in their lives including choosing their own needs. Not only to train independence, the items available are also tailored to the needs of children. Euka and Adriana hope that this activity can take place again in the following years.
