Adolescent Health and Mifta’s Dream of Becoming a Pastor

11 October 2024

Mifta is the nickname of this 18-year-old teenager. She has attended several trainings related to adolescent posyandu organized by Yayasan Plan International Indonesia (Plan Indonesia). Mifta herself is one of the adolescent posyandu cadres, who is expected to help prevent stunting in the future.

Since grade 1, Mifta has been a sponsored child of Plan Indonesia. Through various trainings organized by this organization, Mifta learned many things, from being a youth health cadre to other skills such as stick and stone related to child protection in her village. This experience has shaped Mifta into a person who cares and is committed to the welfare of her community.

Mifta lives with her family in the village. Her father and mother work as seasonal farmers. Every rainy season, they plant corn and raise livestock which are then sold to fulfill the family’s needs. Mifta is the third of four children, with one brother and two sisters. Their life is simple, but full of togetherness and support for each other.

“My dream is to become a pastor, to achieve this dream, I prepare myself by studying hard,” said Mifta. In addition to studying, I have also gained a lot of knowledge from Plan related to adolescent reproductive health and also related to child protection in the village, besides that I am also a cadre of adolescent posyandu in the village, explained Mifta.

At the adolescent posyandu, Mifta and her friends carry out various important activities. They measure the arm circumference, body weight, and abdominal circumference of the teenagers. In addition, they also provide counseling related to adolescent reproductive health. This activity is very useful in increasing teenagers’ awareness and knowledge about the importance of maintaining health.

During their time as adolescent posyandu cadres, Mifta and her friends received support from village funds in the form of providing incentives for adolescent posyandu cadres of Rp500,000 per year. This funding is an initiative of the local village government.

Mifta is an inspiration to many teenagers in her village. She proves that with the right determination and support, any dream can be achieved. Village life may be full of challenges, but it is also full of opportunities to learn and grow. Mifta is proof that behind simplicity lies tremendous strength and potential.

With an undying spirit, Mifta continues to move forward. She believes that one day, she will be a pastor who can provide guidance and inspiration to many. And in that quiet village, Mifta continues to pursue her dreams, bringing hope and change to her community.
