18 February 2025
Nagekeo, February 13th 2025 – Indonesian actor and Judo athlete, Joe Taslim, created an inspiring story during his visit to Nagekeo, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) with Yayasan Plan International Indonesia (Plan Indonesia). On this trip, he enjoyed the beauty of nature and local wisdom and brought important messages about access to clean water, education, and child protection.
Joe visited Wokowoe Village, Dagalea Village and Tengatiba Village on this trip. He listened directly to stories from the community about the challenges they face in getting proper education and adequate clean water. The actor who played Sub-Zero in the Mortal Kombat movie also accompanied children to collect clean water in the morning before school.
At the end of his visit, Joe Taslim expressed his appreciation and support for Plan Indonesia’s efforts to assist the community and government in providing access to clean water for the community.
He also attended the handover ceremony of clean water facilities in the village, which included one reservoir with a capacity of 6,000 liters, one distribution reservoir with a capacity of 12,000 liters, and 14 public hydrants with a capacity of 1,100 liters each along with water taps. Joe’s presence in this event shows his support for efforts to improve the people’s access to clean water.
Plan Indonesia through the Nagekeo Program Implementation Area (PIA), has committed to completing the distribution of clean water distribution in the district. To date, more than 760 thousand liters of clean water have been distributed to five assisted villages. This program is expected to help more than 6 thousand people spread across the region.
“Clean water is the basic right of every individual. I am very moved to see the conditions here and hope to help improve the quality of life of the community,” said Joe.
Dini Widiastuti as Executive Director of Plan Indonesia stated, “We have been in this village for many years with various assistance. But clean water is the main aspect of realizing clean and healthy behavior. Clean water is the legacy we want to leave for the children here. We are also happy to welcome Joe. We hope this visit can inspire more people to contribute to the fulfillment of the right to clean water.”
Joe Taslim also delivered a message to the children that they have the right to feel safe from violence, and should speak up if they face threatening situations.
“This meaningful journey shows that every child has the right to grow up in a supportive and safe environment. I hope that all parties can work together to ensure that children everywhere have access to the education and protection they need,” said Joe Taslim.
Joe Taslim Mingles and Shares Shoes for School
Not only sharing knowledge, Joe also brought happiness to the students and teachers by distributing 120 pairs of school shoes donated by Skechers Indonesia. The children’s cheerful faces when they received their new shoes reflected their hope to continue moving forward in education and life.
“We believe that active movement brings positive changes, especially for children who are still growing up. By providing comfortable footwear that supports daily activities, we hope that every child can get better opportunities to develop themselves,” said Martina Harianda Mutis, Brand Marketing General Manager of PT MAP Aktif Adiperkasa.
Joe Taslim’s visit to Nagekeo was not just an ordinary trip, but a journey that built hope. With warm interactions, powerful messages, and concrete actions, he showed that caring can be manifested in simple yet impactful steps.
