A Long-Distance Friendship Story: Adel and Her Sponsor in Germany

“I’m happy, even though we are separated by a long distance, we can still share news with each other, thank you very much for sponsoring me,” said Adel while holding a doll and several other items that she had just received.

Adel, a 15-year-old boy, lives in a small village in South Central Timor District, Indonesia. She is the youngest of three children. Her parents work as farmers and ranchers, struggling every day to make ends meet for their family. Despite her simple life, Adel always shows great spirit and cheerfulness.

Adel is currently in the 3rd grade of junior high school and has noble dreams of becoming a teacher. She wants to share her knowledge and help children in her village get a better education. This goal is made stronger by the support of her sponsor who lives far away in Germany.

Over the past few months, Adel has received letters from her sponsor. These letters contain not only words of encouragement, but also stories about life in Germany, the family situation, and the different climate. In addition to letters, her sponsors often send packages containing school supplies such as coloured pencils, erasers, hair ties, dolls and bracelets. For Adel, every package she receives is a treasure. She is very happy to receive coloured pencils that can be used for drawing, hair ties that make her look more presentable, dolls that become her playmates, and bracelets that are always worn with pride.

Adel feels very lucky to have such caring sponsors. Even though they are thousands of kilometres apart, they can still share stories and happiness. Adel often replies to letters from her sponsor by telling them about her daily life in the village, activities at school, and dreams for the future.

The relationship between Adel and his sponsor is a clear example of how kindness and support can transcend geographical boundaries. Her sponsor not only provides material support but also encouragement and motivation that means a lot to Adel. Every letter and package received makes Adel feel appreciated and cared for.

Adel also often tells her friends about her sponsor in Germany. She feels proud and has friends who are so kind and caring. Her friends are happy too and sometimes they get together to see the contents of the package Adel received. They share their happiness and support each other.
