60 Vocational Teachers and Trainers Participate in Electric Vehicle Technology Training with Plan International and Hyundai Motor Company

Jakarta, 15 October 2026 – The rapid advancement of electric vehicles and modern automotive technologies is driving demand for a workforce with continuously updated skills. To help vocational education keep pace with these changes, Plan Indonesia, Plan Korea, and Hyundai Motor Company trained 60 vocational high school (SMK) teachers and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) instructors through the Hyundai Motor Company High-Tech Volunteer Program, held from 13-15 October 2026 at PPKPI Jakarta in East Jakarta.

The training is part of broader efforts to prepare young people for the evolving needs of the automotive industry, covering competencies ranging from vehicle diagnostic systems to hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) technologies.

“Industrial transformation will only become an opportunity for young people if education can keep pace with it. Strengthening the capacity of teachers and instructors is therefore essential so that industry-relevant knowledge and skills can be passed on to more young people,” said Urip Budiarto, Resource Mobilization Director of Plan Indonesia.

This need aligns with the growing electric vehicle market in Indonesia. According to the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT), electric vehicles accounted for15.2 percent of passenger car sales in Indonesia in the second quarter of 2025. This technological shift highlights the importance of vocational education that can adapt learning content to industry demands.

Through the workshop, 60 participants, including four women, attended training across three technical areas: Smartstream Powertrain: ICE Gasoline & Diesel, Advanced Diagnostics & ADAS, and Eco-Friendly Vehicles: HEV & EV High Voltage Safety. Theoretical and practical sessions were led by Hyundai Motor Company top engineers and covered modern engine technology, vehicle diagnostics, electronic vehicle communication systems, and safety procedures for handling high-voltage systems in electric vehicles.

Direct engagement with industry practitioners provided participants with valuable insights into the technologies and procedures used in real-world workplaces. The knowledge gained is expected to support teachers and instructors in delivering more relevant and industry-aligned learning experiences for students and vocational trainees.

“The success of the automotive industry’s transformation depends not only on technological innovation, but also on the readiness of human resources. By strengthening the competencies of educators, we hope that knowledge of the latest automotive technologies can reach more future workers,” said Hyeri Na, Hyundai Motor Company High-Tech Volunteer Program Lead.

The Hyundai Motor Company High-Tech Volunteer Program is part of Tech Muda 3.0, Plan Indonesia’s employment program focused on strengthening the capacity and governance of TVET institutions. The program promotes stronger linkages between vocational education and labor market needs, ensuring that young people develop skills that are relevant to industrial developments.

This collaboration brings together Hyundai Motor Company’s technical expertise, Plan International’s experience in supporting youth development, and the critical role of vocational institutions in preparing a future-ready workforce.

“Plan Korea is proud to connect Hyundai Motor Company’s expertise with skills development needs in Indonesia. Collaboration between industry, educational institutions, and development organizations can help expand young people’s access to skills that are relevant to the jobs of the future,” said Sangyoung Park, Head of Programme Plan Korea.

As the host institution, PPKPI Jakarta also plays an important role in supporting the professional development of vocational educators, ensuring that learning processes continue to evolve alongside technological advancements and industry requirements.

Through this training, Plan Indonesia and its partners hope that industry knowledge can be integrated into vocational learning and transferred to more young people. In doing so, young people will not only understand emerging automotive technologies but also develop the skills needed to adapt and capitalize on new opportunities.
